Director, Advertising Planning & Solutions

Hornet, the world's premier gay social network, is seeking a Director of Advertising Planning & Solutions to join our rapidly growing NY team. The successful candidate brings a comprehensive skill set, versatile experience and demonstrated success in Digital Planning, Ad Ops and Customer Success within the digital, mobile and/or social sectors, which you have leveraged to effectively oversee both pre-sale support and post-sale client service functions. We're looking for an A player who will shine as an exceptional individual performer, and as a team player who effectively interfaces with Hornet talent distributed across the US and the globe.



The Director of Advertising Planning & Solutions, working out of our NYC offices and reporting to the SVP Global Sales, is charged with both pre and post-sale responsibilities for ensuring client success, including:



  • Create/update digital media proposals based on client objectives/assets, as requested by sales reps (often in response to RFPs), and coordinating with Director of Marketing to ensure alignment with pitched programs
  • Maintain and optimize sales tools such as Google Analytics, comScore, and provide customized audience, inventory and other user analytics pulls as requested by sales reps for meeting prep, RFP responses, etc.
  • Oversee development and team usage of post-sale systems and tools including Insightly (CRM), DocuSign (Contracts), Trello (Campaign Set-Up), Xero (Billing), including training
  • Develop reports and systems to manage and forecast advertising inventory, particularly for monitoring and balancing pitched vs. available inventory, as proposals advance through the sales funnel toward close
  • Work closely with head of Revenue to report on inventory status, to ensure waterfall is optimally monetized between Direct, Programmatic, etc.
  • Coordinate with Product team to ensure Hornet ad product capabilities and systems adhere to industry standards and advertiser needs, identifying trends and assessing emerging technologies on a rolling basis



  • Accurately schedule, upload, launch and manage Direct advertising campaigns for complete, on-time fulfilment, optimal client performance and maximizing revenue, including:
    • Contract execution within DocuSign
    • Campaign set-up within Trello
    • Inserting, approving, and revising Proposals in DSM/XSM---maintaining front-end and back-end of DSM/XSM Administrator
    • Billing, Reporting and Reconciliations, supporting Billing Department with Reporting and assistance with Reconciliations and Collections
    • Managing contract details between sales reps, clients and agencies
    • Analyzing performance reports to monitor campaign delivery, and providing internal and external clients with optimization recommendations
  • Manage day-to-day advertising partner relationship; provide exceptional client service to advertising partners
  • Provide continuous strategic and tactical input to the Hornet product development team, including trends and opportunities based on ongoing campaign and publisher performance


REQUIRED Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 4 years digital ad trafficking experience from a mobile web\app publisher including use of DSM/XSM & DFP  
  • Minimum 2 years digital planning/account management experience from a mobile web/app publisher and/or major media planning/buying agency
  • Comprehensive understanding of:
    • Digital ad serving and third Party Reporting platforms, i.e. DFP, MoPub Eyeblaster, Pointroll, ATLAS, DFA, AdJuster
    • Optimizing demand from SSPs, ad exchanges, ad networks and performance advertisers
    • Video ad platforms
  • Skill set that includes:
    • Troubleshooting problems with a technical mindset and strong attention to detail
    • Analytical and mathematically savvy
    • PC, Mac, Android and iOS literate, and adept at Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
    • Organizational, record-keeping, reporting and communication proficiency
    • Effective prioritization and management of multiple projects at once, often including multiple stakeholders both internal and external, across multiple time zones
  • Overall approach/work style that includes:
    • Team player, high-energy, driven, and revenue-focused
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, product launch environment
    • Fearless and Friendly mindset--you're an outgoing people person equally "in your element" in a live meeting, video call, phone conversation or email exchange

ADDITIONAL/PREFERRED Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience overseeing and optimizing inventory waterfall monetization, including:
    • Direct responsibility over Programmatic advertising revenue, working against weekly, monthly and annual targets
    • Broaching and maintaining relationships with industry players, particularly Exchanges
  • Fluency in additional languages, especially French, Spanish and/or Portuguese
  • Ideally, you bring direct understanding and experience with the gay social app landscape including being a Hornet user yourself


Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes an aggressive base salary + discretionary performance bonus.
