Director, People & Culture

As Hornet’s first People & Culture Director, you will establish innovative practices and programs to develop a high-performance culture that attracts, develops, engages and retains the very best talent.  Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (a veteran global HR leader), you will play a key role in scaling the company to support ambitious growth objectives.

Our awesome and growing team is spread across 17 countries with main hubs currently in NYC, Berlin, Prague, Cape Town and Paris and is made up of some 80 full-time team members and contractors.

You will create scalable processes and systems, flawless in execution of HR processes for the entire team member life cycle with full responsibility for all HR activities at Hornet. As the company scales, so will the investment in building out the HR team. You’ll be forward looking and ahead of major changes in HR. In this role, you will roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty while at the same time, focus on innovation and strategy to keep pushing Hornet forward and growing.

What we need at Hornet

You should have an exceptional track record, with at least 7 years of experience in tech companies, working in fast-growing environments. You should have built - from scratch and scaled first class HR programs and practices, and be comfortable working internationally with teams in multiple time zones.

Extensive experience of recruitment, compensation, development and building strong performance cultures is a must. Good knowledge of how to create best in class process, appropriate to the size and scale of business that we are today and will become. You should have experience in HR from companies with operations in multiple countries across the world.

You’ll need to be an inspiring coach who can energize and influence people. You should be a confident presenter and communicator. You’ll be empathetic and have exceptional soft-skills be able to listen and be flexible / adaptable, but also comfortable to be direct and candid when required. You should be a strong decision maker, organized, calm, composed, unflappable, able to deal with the gamut of issues that arise in a fast growing company.

You should be highly organized and able to hold in your mind details from a number of different areas simultaneously, be able to effectively prioritize, be adaptable, agile,and have a strong action-bias. You are an exceptional executor.

Your style should be open, inclusive, trustworthy, and a collaborative team player. You’ll also need good energy and stamina. You should have an appreciation of making an impact on the global LGBT community, of creative content and fast-growth tech or platform companies. You are familiar with global, fast-growing, distributed freelance workforce systems and the gig economy and its challenges.

You are comfortable with around 30% international travel.

This position could be based in either NYC, Berlin, Paris or London.
