The Role

Hornet is searching for a dynamic and disciplined sales leader to be located in New York (strongly preferred) or Los Angeles.

This executive will be responsible for developing the current sales team as well as recruiting and mentoring additional members. S/he must be a seasoned sales leader with deep brand/agency relationships, and experience scaling a sales organization. This sales leader will drive the overall advertising revenue strategy, and its execution; Key to Hornet’s growth will be the development of new advertising partners, establishing contracts with these partners, and maintaining current advertising partner relationships in a large geographic area.


The successful candidate is a player/coach, and has experience building a high functioning sales team.  S/he must enjoy being client facing, while at the same time, provide the mentorship and development for his/her team. The ideal candidate has experience setting up a full sales function including sales processes, sales marketing programs, compensation, and reporting structures. S/he must also have a solutions orientated approach, with a track record creating value propositions that address each client’s unique needs. This executive must be highly organized to work in a company with employees across the globe all independently.

We strongly prefer an executive with previous experience across multiple mediums including: mobile, print or online media.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Identify and execute tactical priorities to support continued growth in key and developing markets
  • Work closely with President in developing comprehensive global marketing strategy that takes into
  • consideration various languages, regions and platforms, clients, and needed sales solutions
  • Conceptualize and manage successful direct marketing and messaging tailored to regional international
  • markets targets to brands and agencies
  • Collaborate with President in planning annual marketing budget and evaluate year-end performance,
  • values and objectives
  • Track, measure and analyze effectiveness of all sales efforts
  • Supervise, mentor and evaluate personnel
  • Create, manage and optimize automated communication strings targeting customers at different points
  • in the customer lifecycle
  • Make presentations to the biggest brands in the region growing/maintaining advertising from current
  • clients and finding new ones
  • Connect on the local level with potential clients for advertising sales, work with ad reps
  • Be able to promote Hornet and its various ad products in a clear, effective way
  • Participate in weekly company calls
  • Plan parties in partnerships, exclusive non party events, and focus on total market domination, online
  • and offline.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Skills and Competencies

  • Experience with building a sales culture, processes, scripts, materials, etc.
  • Experience selling digital media, and strongly prefer experience with mobile and video platforms
  • A keen eye for innovation and an enduring interest in technology with a strong understanding of the social networking market
  • Strong analytic skills – ability to take large amounts of data, identify key issues and opportunities, and mobilize team to quickly address issues or capitalize on opportunities
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization and within our customer base
  • High-energy team coach/player when it comes to collaborating and contributing ideas
  • Ability to drive ideas from concept to completion through superior organizational, project management and team leadership skills
  • Proficient with the latest versions of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook) and Google Docs
  • Preferably will have an understanding and experience of the gay dating landscape and be a Hornet user

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 4 to 6 years of experience with web and mobile marketing
  • Sales experience and knowledge of advertising/marketing principles and concepts
  • Friendly and outgoing, with excellent communication skills (including writing and public speaking)
  • Ability to learn quickly and work well with others in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments simultaneously under deadlines
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities with little supervision
  • Excellent customer service ethic and high quality of work
  • Knowledge of advertising and sales promotion techniques
